This is my favorite potty book. We have two. When we started off using the potty, I would read my son our two potty books to give him time to 'go'. This one is the most fun. It doesn't go over each of the steps like many potty books, like washing hands when you're done. But I think it does do a good job at motivating a kid to 'be a big kid' and use the potty and wear underwear. The book has really large and dynamic text that is part of the graphics, that invite the reader to be very animated... "WHOOO-HOOOO!" which of course makes it a lot of fun for my son to hear. It has a really unique 3 color design (yellow, blue and black) which is interesting for mommy as well.I started off borrowing this book form the library when my son first expressed interest in the potty. After we returned it, I think his interest in potty waned. I ordered our own copy and he's back on the potty track.

Live this book. Its simpke but if you read it with a lot of dramatization like "yay, I'm a big kid now"!!! My son just exploded with excitement and all he kept repeating was "I'm a big boy, I'm not a baby". He just loved it. Very easy read, perfect for a 2 year old to understand and absorb the message. It was great.

After much potty-training frustration, I bought this for my 3-year-old son. He has a couple of other potty books, but this one has really gained his interest and gotten him to want to go on the potty like a "big boy"! I prefer this book to other potty books out there, because it does a good job explaining to little ones on how and when they need to go and that sometimes one needs to sit on the potty patiently! If you are having trouble getting your little one to actually sit and wait on the potty - I definitely recommend this book!

I bought this book and ‘Where’s the poop?’ Book a week and a half ago hoping to inspire my 2 year and 2 month old boy to use the potty. He loves both these books. Insisted on reading them everyday. And sure enough yesterday insisted on sitting on the toilet. Nothing happened. But today he insisted again and pooped twice in the toilet. Big kid power is genius! Thank you

I love this book!! My son has special needs and this book was perfect for him. It's fun and straight to the point! My son was really able to connect the story with real life. I sent it into school with him when he had an accident there so he could read it with his teacher in the school bathroom. No that he is trained we use it at home when he gets off track and needs reminding. I wrote the author to tell her how much we love her book and she wrote back with very kind words! Sometimes it little things like this that make a huge difference!!

My little girl thought that this book was so good! Helped throughout the potty training period. Easy to read to kids and it makes the stress of going to the potty go away!

Our daughter loves this book. It helped with potty training.

It's for the 3 year old, my 5 year old likes it as much if not more than the son being potty trained. I like how it takes him through the steps of peeing and pooping on the potty.

My boyfriend wanted to try metal detecting, but he kept getting lost in the internet and the multiple conflicting sources. So I bought him this book and it’s wonderful for beginners like us! This book is a great introduction to metal detecting! It provided so much information. One of my favorite parts of the book was the simple definitions of the lingo. There were so many things I learned about just from this one chapter! The book also provided details of different kinds of metal detectors, from different brands to different uses for metal detectors. The book moves into where you should be metal detecting, the laws of property, to identifying your treasures to cleaning! It’s really a wonderful book, especially for a beginner.

This book is a must-have for every beginner. As someone just getting into the scene, this book was extremely helpful and very detail oriented. I loved the big font and easy layout of the book too! I didn't realize how small some of the text was in other books I've been reading until I picked this up and realized how much easier it was on my eyes. The formatting on this book was just incredible - it's part of the reason it was so easy to get through the abundance of information. Learning the lingo from this book has been so much more helpful then I ever thought possible. I loved all the pictures in the book but particularly loved the ones that helped show the direction of the water when explaining what to look for when it comes to water flow. Fantastic! The diagrams and photos made it extremely easy to visual all the text they accompanied! Great book - highly recommended for beginners.

I bought this because of the rave reviews to get it. I used to to purchase exactly the type of metal detector I needed, or rather what would fit my needs. I loved the review of all the various types.I then purchased one from amazon, but within an hour canceled it because I learned metal detecting is illegal in my state of Wisconsin. Even though I am on the border of Illinois, I didn't want to be squeamish every time I tried to use it. So from what I saw of the beginning of this book, it was full of valuable information. It's just upsetting that I can't use it while living where I do.

OK I have given this 4 stars because it is an easy read and the author was full of enthusiasm and would make a good coach for Detecting Camp if there is such a thing. He also included information about the best types of detectors for different types of detecting. I learned about probing, something I had not heard of before. The electrolysis portion was informative. The detecting rivers had some good tips. The Jewelry, preserving your relics and selling your finds information was helpful. The join the community links and links for research were cool too. If this book had been half the price It would have gotten 5 stars. It was informative but read more like an adventure novel instead of a guide to metal detecting. I am a beginner, If you have been doing longer than a year then this probably would not teach you much that you have not learned from your experience except maybe the Probing part, now that takes skill....

This guide is an excellent guide for beginners; for anyone beyond the beginning stages of detecting however this a fruitless resource. .. seeing as it has "a beginners guide" in the title, I can't say it's misleading. It was a fun read, and though it didn't bring anything new to the table for me personally, I wish I would've had this book before heading out the first few times with my detector.I must say that I appriciate the tone and humor of this book, however it was amateur written, includes typosted and mispelling and is greatly unedited.This book is a great buy if you are super new to this hobby since it combines many great facts all in one place.... if you've already done some reading and detecting however, I wouldn't recommend this book.. find something more advanced.

I've bought 3 detectors now... 1 for my brother and 2 for me. While I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with my purchases, I MIGHT have done things differently if I had read this first. I usually research any meaningful purchase on the internet - product reviews such as here on Amazon, forum posts, etc. Literally, whatever I can find... that's the issue, sometimes you don't know what it is that you don't know. Meaning you don't have enough info to ask, or search for, the right questions. Mark's book is a quick read and filled with really good information. A lot of it can be found on the internet -- IF you knew what to look for, but being new to the hobby, I didn't. This book taught me a lot. Also if you're going to do any beach hunting, you need to read this, and Mark's other book "Metal Detecting the Beach" - especially if you're going to do salt water. Of the 3 detector's I purchased, only 1 is really suitable for salt water beaches. I didn't know. There's more to this than I thought. Thanks, Mark, for the education!

This is a great book for beginners. It's easy to read regardless of your level of technical expertise, and the relaxed way it's written conveys the information without being intimidating. As an engineer with a basic theoretical understanding of how metal detectors work I found the technical descriptions to be on the simple side, though accurate enough for the target audience. As a complete novice to the practical aspects of finding and digging up metal objects, however, I found the book very helpful. My metal detector arrived shortly after I finished reading this book and I found the techniques and suggestions I'd read to be practical and useful.There are some minor grammatical and spelling errors, but not enough to detract from the book's content. I might have deducted a star for its short length if I'd gotten the dead-tree edition, but at the Kindle price I thought it was worth every penny.

The book is extremely readable, it reads more like a lengthy verbal monologue. Despite the subject hinted at in the title, it is of limited use for self defense, and almost no use for that if you don't plan to actively seek out what most Amazon users would view as dangerous and alien places.The book actually is a rough and ready lecture on sociology, believe it or not! Animal tells us about his concept of "operating systems", the core beliefs about acceptable behavior that a subculture (such as the inhabitants of a particular area) accept as "obvious". He goes on to talk about how this applies in a broad way to rough neighborhoods in general, and then talks about it fairly specifically on some particular categories such as Magick and Religion, tattoos and body marks, women, and other categories that are likely to be of particular interest. One of these categories is "untouchables", and Animal's concept here is a good one, but he chose a category title with a totally different conventional meaning that makes it easy to get confused. Animal encourages you to question your own operating systems and be open to the idea that people with different experiences may not have the same beliefs. He gives a few, but not many, specific examples of this. Animal closes with some advice on increasing your situational awareness.The book is fascinating and easy to read, so I gave it four stars for myself. I believe it would be of fair usefulness in preparing for someone from the law-abiding world to spend more time in a seriously lawless area, for those people I think it would rate three or four stars. For those who don't care about being entertained, and only want to learn how to survive the more common things such as muggings or bar fights in less violent areas, I'd rate the book as two stars.

This book truly helps readers refine and strengthen their situational awareness for survival on the street. It can help you instantly and easily identify the fighters, hustlers, workers, spectators and troublemakers using the same tricks that bouncers, law enforcement officers, prison guards, drug dealers, bikers, and street people utilize so effectively. It goes in-depth into subjects like family group operating systems, personal operating systems, utilizing and refining your personal radar, turf, territory, personal space, rural versus urban reactions, gambling, tacking, scarring, piercing, tattoos, etiquette, eye contact, and other issues that are commonly known only to a very small segment of society. Reading this book is a very eye-opening, mind-expanding experience.The author is the real deal. Growing up on gang-infested streets not only gave MacYoung his street name "Animal," but also extensive firsthand experience about what does and does not work for self-defense. Over the years, he has held a number of dangerous occupations including director of a correctional institute, bodyguard, and bouncer. He was first shot at when he was 15 years old and has since survived multiple attempts on his life, including professional contracts. He has studied a variety of martial arts since childhood, teaching experience-based self-defense to police, military, civilians, and martial artists around the world. For the longest time I thought self-defense, fighting, combat and martial arts were all the same. Then I heard about Marc MacYoung and started following his work online. This book provides a very good introduction to the differences between the 4 spheres I mentioned earlier. It's a very easy read and gives a different perspective of self-defense and survival in general. The concepts are not always clearly explained but the stories and anecdotes do help. Plus they're pretty entertaining!The author does use some strong language to get his point across so buyer beware. However, he doesn't take himself too seriously and the tone is sincere and self-deprecating. This is a great book if you want to really learn about self-defense. Beneath its coarse and often foul-mouthed exterior lies a good deal of research and an insightful look at human behavior in general.This is NOT a book on techniques and how-to-react-when-attacked guide. It's a guide on how to AVOID attacks and stay out of trouble in general. I'd definitely recommend sharing the concepts in this book with your loved ones.

This is one of Marc's quirkier books. The first several chapters are so strangely & idiosyncratically written,I found myself writing in the margins "what the hell is Marc talking about?" Whatever,he finally does get to his point of how best to avoid violence by situational & interpersonal awareness. Along the way,he does,of course,offer his usual extremely valuable techniques & principles of defensive street combat which characterize all his books.

Not Marc's best work. He has a wealth of practical advice, but in this book he buries the gems in a pile of pointless war stories and irrelevant opinion.

Noam Chomsky is Professor of Linguistics at MIT and a world-renowned political thinker and activist. The author of numerous books, including On Language and Understanding Power (both available from The New Press), he lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is one of those very rare instance in which we get two great philosophers of the two main traditions in philosophy, Chomsky on the "analytic" side and Foucault on the "continental" side, and it is quite a treat, I don't recall a similar exchange of ideas from these two schools ever, unless one considers the later Richard Rorty of a "continental philosopher", and his various discussions with many analytic philosophers, but this could be disputed.This debate focuses on extremely important issues which indeed belong to the realm of "philosophy", and proves to be an invaluable companion in regards to thinking about how power functions in society, what is an appropriate model of political relations which could be used as a vision for a future, more egalitarian society and the very controversial question as to what "human nature" is, if it even can be said to exist at all, which, one of the philosophers in this debate denies.There are many great things about the book, not least the supplementary material, which offers an "extra" to the content of this debate, but also the clarity in which Foucault expresses his ideas, which was (and still is, but to a lesser extent) anathema during the rise of "postmodernism" in France. It's good to know that not everything which is obscure in contemporary philosophy need not be profound, indeed the opposite is the case.Chomsky, as always, is brilliant, perceptive and a fantastic human being, and the objections Foucault "throws" at Chomsky are poignant and relevant. In fact, this may be the one debate that I have read or seen in which I cannot say that Chomsky "won" with any definite certainty. In fact, it is up to you to read the book and see who "won", if such a word can be used.This debate is civil, friendly and very, very deep, and can be re-read many times at different periods within ones life and "side" with one person over the other. Sure, the first portion of the debate is somewhat technical, though this improves as the moderator does his job through the debate.It's sad that in contemporary philosophy, we don't see say, Zizek debate, for example, John Searle nor have had a great chance to see, for example Hans-Geor Gadamer debate John Rawls, which could have been possible. Dialogue is extremely important and sticking to the stereotypes which describe continental philosophy as "obscure gibberish" or the analytic school as being "hair-splitting trivialities" does no one, least of all the general public, appreciate the wonder of the over 2000 year old philosophical tradition, which is rich with deep thoughts unlike any other field within human understanding.Is our knowledge limited by our brain-structure or by societal norms and regulations? Can society be better off without schools and mental institutions? Is there one singe human nature? All this and much more, are tackled in this wonderful, wonderful book.P.S: Anyone willing to put in MINIMAL effort will be very rewarded.

Though a great deal is discussed in this short debate, the crux is the participants' views of "human nature", as the book's title indicates.There has to be a winner in a debate--or, better said, a more plausible line of argument, since eternal questions aren't likely to be answered decisively in a debate, even if two geniuses are the participants.No question that Foucault's argument is the more plausible in this case.Chomsky argues from his theory of "generative grammar" that there's an innate structure in the human mind which allows children to develop (should I say, generate?) complex verbal structures from their basic--and limited--experience of language. He claims this can't be explained in behavorist terms (essentially, the trial-and-error method) and given this "schemetization" and our experience of history, it's reasonable to assume that there are others, ergo we can postulate that "human nature" in innate, even if we don't as yet understand its complex structure and the precise way it functions.Foucault argues that Chomsky's conception is indefensible, because what occurs in history determines the way we define "human nature". Our vision of what it means to be human changes over time, being the creation of various forces we can't define clearly, as, for example, when we consider the way the "climate of opinion" in medicine was transformed over a period of 40 years in the 19th century.The decisive point in the debate occurs when Foucault asks whether the revolution Chomsky hopes for is the result of a desire for social justice or more accurately a desire by the oppressed to seize power. Chomsky thinks the desire for justice is part of "human nature", Foucault thinks it's possible, even likely, that the oppressed will become the oppressors if they are able to seize power.Chomsky counters this point by saying that if he believed the oppressed would become the oppressors, he wouldn't support revolutionary activity, but his vision of "human nature" includes the universal desire for justice. Foucault argues that the desire for Power overrides all other considerations.Essentially, Chomsky argues from the position of Kant, that there's a "categorical imperative" equivalent to the way we commonly talk about "conscience", that's part of "human nature", whereas Foucault takes the position of Nietzsche that the "Will to Power", which, like the Freudian "id", makes no moral distinctions, is the decisive factor in history.Pragmatically, I would say Chomsky's position is, like Kant's, a matter of personal belief, not a demonstrable assertion, whereas Foucault's is demonstrated by any dispassionate reading of history, therefore more plausible, even if it's not apodictically conclusive.Therefore, I would say that Chomsky's merit is his uncovering of the machinations of the political powerful, but his explanation of why the oppressors are as they are, and, even more important, why the oppressed are as they are, is a matter of faith, whereas Foucault's "explanation" is at least defensible.

Enjoyable. Well written. Thought provoking. I had trouble following one of the chapters: one of the essays by Foucault, I think it was entitled "Truth and Power". I didn't understand it. I'm not familiar with all the philosophical terms and ideas. Once I have a better grasp, I intend to come at it again!
