Great book! The team owner requires the quarterback to get counseling in order to play. He requires his best friend's daughter to counsel him to get her inheritance that he controls. They end up in Puerto Rico building homes for people who lost theirs in the hurricane, which turns out to be the best treatment for both of them. Great feel good book.

Dax Brady has lost the biggest game of his life. Plus has some personal problems he is dealing with. Sky Brooks a therapist has been brought back home by her father's best friend Jon. Jon wants Sky to help Dax. Well written story with strong and believable characters. Really enjoy Taylor Hart books.

Good book. Lots of fun. Very short. But good.

Thanks to my husband’s sports instruction over the years I know the importance of the mental game the players play in sports. Poor Dax was struggling to with his mental game and it cost him the super bowl. So not surprisingly a therapist is brought in to help him recover from the loss and evaluate him to see if he can be a first string quarterback. I wholeheartedly agree with Sky’s therapy method: helping others takes your mind off of your own problems and helps you get some perspective on your life. Sky is still running from her own problems and hasn’t been able to work as a therapist in over a year. So this book has two people who are grieving and lost in one way or another. Both have been able to go thru the motions of their lives but past events has made them hold back from really moving forward. This was a really sweet story of each of them helping the other one heal. And of course falling in love always makes life better too!The story progressed a little fast for me to find it believable, this the 4 stars, but it was enjoyable nonetheless and a fun read.

Dax Brady was the next star quarterback for the Texas Titan Football team if he can get his act together. He has had a lot of tragedy in his life. A year earlier, he caught his fiance' kissing his twin brother before the wedding. Then his little brother was diagnosed with ALS, a horrible disease from which there is no cure. He was reeling and needed to get his mojo back.Sky Brooks is a therapist who hasn't practiced since the death of her father a year ago. Jon Kincaid from the Texas Titan organization has given her the task of "fixing" Dax Brady. She isn't sure she can do that or that she can help anyone anymore, including herself. She has a $3 million dollar inheritance that is tied to this challenge. If she can't fix Dax, she can't get her money. All she wants to do is go back to Puerto Rico to help build homes and help others to recover from the hurricane.She has a bright idea that she will take Dax to Puerto Rico so she can fix him there. In the process, maybe she can be fixed, too.I really enjoyed reading this book. I have read several in the Texas Titan football series. These alpha football players have big hearts and are good to the core. This story was a clean romance with no foul language. It was just a nice, feel good romance.I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my review and would encourage those who enjoy a book that makes you feel good, this might be the one for you to read.

Another great book by Ms. Hart! Dax Brady and Sky Brooks are used to healing and helping others, but this time they need to focus on themselves.Dax runs into Sky as he's fighting to remain with the Texas Titans as their quarterback. An advisor to the team's owner, who is also Sky's surrogate father must be convinced that he should stay in Texas. He also has his eye on healing Sky, who is heartbroken after the death of her own father.Dax is carrying the burdens of his brothers and their family issues. His mother and brothers are after him to make peace for the sake of his sanity, someone close to him has just received a serious medical diagnosis, and the path to keeping his spot with the Titans involves Sky, who is not convinced she's the right one to help him.Sky has been pushing aside her grief and loosing herself in the Carribean. She wants access to her trust fund, but Dax is now part of the deal.This sweet story deals with family issues, pushing through losses...and losses yet to come, and realizing that no matter how bad you think you have it, there are others who would love to have your problems. Ms. Hart has woven realistic characters into a story of forgiveness, family, and future hope.If you're looking for a sweet read to give you hope, this is your book. Download it now.I received an ARC. There is something about Taylor Hart’s football romance books that sucks you right into the heart of the story with witty dialogue, broken and hurting yet heroic characters, and fun plot. This story is no exception. It’s relatively short so can be read in one sitting. This Texas Titan story involves its second-string quarterback Dax, who has a lot of emotional baggage and needs his mental and emotional button reset if he wants to be the starting quarterback. Dax is loyal, kind, compassionate, and tender; he’s immediately lovable from the first page. He’s forced to spend time with Sky, a therapist who’s given up on counseling and now builds homes in Puerto Rico. Sky also has some painful past that she hasn’t let go of yet and the two learn about vulnerability and forgiveness as their friendship and attraction grow. It’s a clean romance; although cursing is mentioned in the narrative, there aren’t actual words written. I really enjoyed the way the author weaved characters from previous books into the story and am hoping that Dax’s four brothers will have stories of their own soon.I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a review. This was highly recommended by my dog trainer but the writing was difficult to follow so I didn't finish it.

I picked up this book in the library. I consider myself pretty open-minded about dog training.I believe that we can use similar "corrections" that a mother dog would use or adult dogs would use with each other and be perfectly OK. I bit of a startle or mild pain is not a bad thing. But, when I got to page 38 where he advocates using a length of washer hose with a wooden dowel in it to strike a dog on the muzzle to correct some biting behaviors, I reached my limit. If you are trying to save yourself from a dog attack, then fine. But, this is supposed to be a correction??Maybe I am just a too tender-hearted person, but there has got to be better ways than this. I have no doubt that done exactly as described, the dog would "behave", but only through blind fear! I don't want a dog in that condition!Zero stars is my rating on the part of the book I read....

This book is really poorly written. He takes 20 pages to agonizingly explain a concept that can be explained in a couple of sentences.I am a professional dog trainer and was hoping to learn any new tips or ideas to improve my game.This book is very hard to read. Very dry. I struggle to stay awake. Very self grandising and sounds like a preacher. Skip it. Just spend a couple of hours on YouTube.

This was the first dog training book i used for obedience training at age 10 , someone borrowed but never returned my copy . Tried to order it via Amazon and it never arrived ... But it is a good reference ,though quite high standards and expects more common sense than newer techniques . It is a nice collectible for those fans of William Koehler as a dog trainer . Though only used this book as a reference for obedience and a guide to problem solving ....but i will give Mr. Koehler the benefit of the doubt that his techniques work .

I'm not sure where to begin when discussing this book. To be fair, let me start by saying that some of these methods will work if used properly by a trainer with impeccable timing. All of the methods in this book will produce results. The problem is that the results are likely to be negative rather than positive.The problem seems to stem from Mr. Koehler's attitude that dogs are sinful con artists who choose to disobey out of a need to be spiteful. Dogs will disobey and they will try to explore the boundaries of what they can get away with, but it isn't to spite you or deliberately make you angry. There are many other more effective and less absurd methods of dealing with this behavior. In fact, more than any other problem with the Koehler Method and those who adhere to it, I see a tendency to provide the uneducated with a false dichotomy of two choices, either do it our way or resign yourself to having an untrained dog. This ridiculous set of false alternatives allows them to force a prospective adherent to make the lesser of two unpleasant choices when, in reality, many other alternatives exist. You can have a very well-trained dog without resorting to the methods in this book.If you are unconvinced that this method is outdated and inappropriate, then do a search for the Koehler website and read the articles there. Then read Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and notice the eerie similarities. The Koehlers and their associates seem to have developed this weird fire and brimstone attitude towards canine behavior that defies the considerable amount of research done on the subject in the last twenty years.On the other hand, if you really enjoy beating a dog and you feel the compulsion to use phrases like "limp-wristed" and "namby-pamby" when referring to anyone who dares to disagree with you, or if you find yourself routinely musing about the eternal damnation of anyone who doesn't subscribe to your worldview, then perhaps this book is for you.

Most dog training books are too general and are "more guidelines than actual rules". This book on the other other hand, gives you step by step, super simple, firefighter friendly, "do it exactly like this" instructions that the only way to not have success is to not follow instructions. It truly is like having Mr. Koehler right there telling you exactly what to do. The best part is that this is really two books in one.The first section deals with explaining the goals, purpose and differences between the different levels of "guard dog". From simple "Alarm" dogs that give warning, "Threat" dogs that will stand their ground and protect and "Attack" dogs who will go all the way like Police and Military K9s. Each Class of guard dog receives detailed and guided "agitation" and control training. A huge amount of time is spent on teaching you how to select a dog with specific physical and natural emotional traits and protective attributes so that you start out with a dog that will be mentally and emotionally stable after completing the training. The author warns AGAINST using this training with just ANY dog!!! That would lead to a dangerous and unstable animal.The second Section is the same as the Traditional Obedience training book by Koehler and is excellent. Again, each skill is presented in a "Step-by-step" manner with tips and aids for problem students, both human and animal. It covers everything from feeding and shelter, to housebreaking, to iron clad heeling, sitting , down, present for inspection and "Come" recall.... OFF LEASH!!!Off leash is truly the best test for any training system. Mr. Koehler's system trains the Owner as much as the Dog and is focused on allowing the Dog to make good decisions and CHOOSE to obey. This is how dogs work in their normal psychology. They NEED a leader. They NEED to have clear expectations and direction. That is why they are PACK animals and have a Pack mentality. That is how they stay mentally and emotionally stable.If you are of the "This is Smoochie. He's my widdle baby. Yes you are. Do it for mommy 'cause I wuv you" crowd, then is is DEFINITELY not the training system for you. You don't need a better trained dog. The Dog needs a better trained human.

A patchy look at a personal favourite of mine but flawed. The book only goes as far as 1998 and, while Carpenter has done little since, the lack of an update is a shame as is the omission of Elvis. The rest of the book is beautifully written and insightful

John Carpenter is an underrated film director. In this overview of Carpenter's work (which ends with 1998's Vampires), Muir defends a director he obviously admires as much as I do while still pointing out some flaws in some of his films. In particular, Carpenter's 1990s films are weaker than many of his 1980s films and that may have to do with some bitterness and anger that the director felt towards film critics and movie executives in his own country. The French view him as an auteur, but Hollywood views him as a hack. Some of these reviews appear in part (or in whole) in other critiques that Muir has published but generally the book is essential for genre fans who appreciate Carpenter's work.

I was rather dissappointed reading this book.Altough It provides interesting insight to the historical aspects of Carpenter's work it lacks indepth analysis when attempting to comment on the films.I understand there's a well meaning effort here to address the average viewer and that is done successfuly,giving Carpenter the status he deserves,but to me Carpenter's movies are a lot more than that and some suggestions regarding some screenplay details seem to loose the point completely.

The horror master is one of the most gifted filmmakers ever to populate this earth, and, if you're not comfortable with that, look someplace else. this is one of the worst books i've ever bought. if you have ever read Fangoria magazine you would have gotten better pictures and more information on mr. carpenter. how can a book like this not go into detail about carpenters famous movie scores! the book is not complete for they don't even mention the made for tv movie ELVIS he made with kurt russell.better information could be obtained from dvd production notes.somebody please write a fitting tribute to a great director.

While many film critiques take the reader through familiar paces on films to which he or she is already familiar, Muir adds much to his subject, adding luster to Carpenter's films (and all but compelling the reader to grab some popcorn and take a fresh ride through Carpenter's world).As a John Carpenter fan for nearly a generation, John Muir's book only made this reader appreciate Carpenter more -- there's an accomplishment. I ordered this book after buying and enjoying three others by this author and found this one to be another excellent addition to my library. This book contains detailed information on each of Mr. Carpenter's films including a synopsis,list of cast and crew,critical reception for each film and a section with the author's commentary. This book is extremely well written and a very enjoyable read. I find myself looking through it often and it has led me to pick up some of John Carpenter's movies to add to my collection. For anyone who is a John Carpenter fan or a horror fan this is one book they should not be without and for the casual movie fan they would enjoy adding this book to their library. The other books I have by John Kenneth Muir are: Horror films of the 1970's, Wes Craven: the Art of Horror and Eaten Alive at a Chainsaw Massacre: the films of Tobe Hooper. These are all excellent books and I highly recommend them to horror fans and movie fans alike. I am currently awaiting the release of his next book: The Unseen Force: the Films of Sam Raimi as I know it will be another excellent addition to my library.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Dylan and Shayla have an amazing one night stand and think that will be it. Of course that's not it! Turns out she works as a receptionist at the PR firm that represents him. Once they find out that they already know each other intimately they decide they need to fix his rep by putting them in a fake relationship! What ensues is sweet but frustrating, sensual and teasing, and finally romantic. This book was a quick read for me because it was a pretty sweet read. I love it and you will too!

I like for my sports story to have action of the actual sport topic but it was more like a footnote than a part of the story. Typical bad boy needed an image boost and get it with his one night stand. There were some awkwardly cute parts of the story between Dylan and Shayla that made the story bearable.

This book was good but boring. I wanted more love scenes and a pregnancy. Some the points in the story I could have done without. Why couldn’t this book end up with them marrying each other in the epilogue. I can’t stand that!!!

I loved the idea of two people getting to know each other as friends and falling in love. As in real life, nothing is easily but you get to know and understand each other. Good story and an entertaining cast of characters.

No surprises. Very good read. Have yet to read a book of theirs I didn’t like. Good couple nice HEA. Looking forward to the next book.

The sport of hockey played a small part in the story. The public persona was the catalyst for a loving relationship.

This was a great book I will be rereading this book again and definitely will be recommending it to my friends

This is a very good biography that manages to put Caesar's accomplishments into perspective and also gives us a pretty good sense of what he was like as a man.

The reader faces a machine gun volley of facts. It seems that just about every appointment, every battle and every dispute is presented - and since he was undeniably a 'colossus', there are very many of these. What fails to emerge from this is a revealing insight into the character of the man himself. He was a talented writer, a compelling orator and a brilliant general, but this will have been known to the reader from the outset. About a quarter of the way through this very long book, I got used to this approach and hung on, hoping for a great deal more information about the aspects of Caesar's life in which I was most interested: the relationship with Cleopatra and the assassination. Alas, though, whilst the style did not change - it was still a machine gun volley of facts - my response did. It came home to me at this point that what I craved was analysis and this is the vital ingredient missing from the book. I am much better informed about the events in his life than I had been, but I do not feel much insight into the character of the man.

I love reading on my Kindle. But, I strongly suggest buying the printed version of this book rather than the Kindle version. The Kindle version did not have bookmarks to skip from one chapter to the next, it did not have links between footnotes and the text, and it did not have links between the index and the text. The index and notes use page numbers that are meaningless in this Kindle version. The only part with links was the Table of Contents. Basically, you can read the book straight through, but you cannot easily find something particular if you want to do so.Having said that, I really think you should actually buy this book (in printed form) if you care to learn about Julius Caesar. The research, details, and writing were great. The author explicitly stated when details were known, estimated, or merely speculated. And, the bases for estimations and speculations were given. For example, much of Julius Caesar's early life is not known explicitly. So, the author speculated many details based on what would have been expected of a young man at his social level who was to pursue a public career.So, buy it. But, buy the printed book.
