I really did want to like this book. However, first of all, it's mean spirited. I'm a stickler, and I'm comfortable with that. But I do not need to see those who are not sticklers put down and repeatedly called illiterate in order to feel better about myself.And that's not the only problem. It is appalling to see someone who is belittling others for their ignorance then point out that she herself is not a grammarian and believes that knowledge of subordinate clauses "is not a prerequisite for caring about where a bracket is preferred to a dash, or a comma needs to be replaced by a semicolon." Actually, you cannot properly punctuate a complex or compound-complex sentence unless you understand subordinate clauses--they often need commas, and many of her subordinate clauses are incorrectly punctuated. You also need grammar to understand that commas should not be between the verb and its direct object, between a preposition and its object, etc. Without a firm understanding of grammar, it is impossible to even discuss why a comma should or should not be in a particular place in a sentence.I don't ordinarily go around pointing this out about someone's writing in reviews, but since the entire purpose here is to discuss punctuation, it seems appropriate.She also makes a huge deal about some movie called Two Weeks Notice and how she feels that the title needed an apostrophe. Again, knowledge of grammar comes in handy here: the argument can be made that in that phrase, "two weeks" is descriptive, not possessive, and therefore, no apostrophe is necessary.All in all, I'm not happy with this book, and I wish I had checked it out from the library instead of buying it.

Hilarious. Well-written. Instructive at times.I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a book. She has some really clever insight into grammar without being overcome by cynicism.It is interesting to read about the state of grammar in the UK as well. It really defies the stereotype that many Americans have about Brits being stuffy and proper all the time.Even though it isn't a grammar guide, she does offer some tips on usage. I was pleased she clarified the semicolon and colon issue and included several examples. At the same time this wasn't a "montage" of real-world grammar blunders with her corrects and/or snide comments, either.But if you enjoy reading about grammar for fun at all, you'll probably enjoy this book. And even if not, you still might appreciate her witty and sardonic style.And yes, she probably would disapprove of me starting my sentences with "and"...

I bought the book with the advice of a co-worker and accidentally bought the audio CD version/format of the book. My mistake was fortuitous and I have never been happier. The audio format (CD) is a pure delight to listen to as I commute to and from work each day. The people who made the disc did a wonderful job. Very interesting as well as entertaining. I will buy more audio books after this one.Love the book!

One would not expect a book on grammar and punctuation to be hilarious, but Truss brings laughter to almost every page. As one of those annoying people who cannot help but point out grammatical errors in public print (menus and grocers and ebooks, oh my!), I found a kindred spirit in Truss. I only wish she had provided her email address, so I could share with her the most egregious of the sign-errors I see every day. Every Grammar-phile should read this book, and keep it on her person for constant reference. Non Grammar-philes should read this book to learn the love of clarity in writing - and to pick up tools with which to defend it. You, too, could be one of those annoying people, confronting the abuse of quotation marks in greengrocers everywhere!

It's refreshing to read a book by an author who has such an obvious love of written language and all its nuances. To make it even better, Ms Truss has infused the entire work with wit and humor. I especially liked the way she was able to weave in a sense of the history of punctuation and its impact on written English, and I share her concern for the future of all these points, stops, and marks. This is a book to savor again and again.

My ability to puctuate correctly was adequate, but I wanted to be better. I got this book and found it to be an enirely enjoyable read; it gives you confidence to use even the the more unusual punctuation marks correctly......and it's humerous too boot!While the author is from the UK and explains usage common in that region, she also remarks on US usage where it differs. I was surprised to learn that there were regional differences and also that the proper use of punctuation marks is changing--and it always has over time.In addition to being a book that comments on the use (or common misuse) of proper puctuation it is also organized in such a way that people who write can reference a certain item (do you have to use a period after Mr?) and read up if they have a question.People writing e-books might especially appreciate this as many write without an editor; a fun book that makes punctuation accessible without suffering through Strunk and White is very welcome.

I really liked this book!! Have not seen anything better in this field to prove, with scientific & psychic information, that the Pleiadians have visited Earth in the distant past. Also verifies the information that our DNA was altered by some being with more advanced technology. Ties in with some of what Zecharia Sitchin says, and also what many Pleiadian channels have told us. I recommend reading the book "Alcheringa" by Valerie Barrow first, since that will make clear what Daniella is referring to in this book. The info sources are reputable, mostly online. There are many in print books that propose similar scenarios, but have not the scientific backup Ms. Fenton gives. Easy to read and never a dull moment! My highest praises to a wonderful job exceedingly well done. Thank you!

This book is so jam packed with interesting research that I would love to give it five stars. However, the excessive use of commas was distracting and forced me to reread almost every passage. I found myself editing in my mind as I went along, wishing someone had made said changes before it went to print.That being said, this opened my eyes to many subjects to explore further.

This is an important work for understanding our early origins as a species. The Kindle version is good because there are numerous references that can be easily found via the links provided. I took one star off because there are a couple of type errors, hopefully there will be an expanded release in the future. Recommended!

Just over half through and I've laughed more than any book since...who knows, everyone writes dark these days. So the premise is outlandish: Space Force has been 'unfunded' and as the last space jockeys are kicked to the curb, earth is attacked by aliens with a penchant for gaming. It doesn't matter to me how it ends, or whether the male/female leads find each other, or that I had to suspend disbelief (yada,yada,yada)--that really isn't the point. From the pink hat parade (won't use the actual reference for fear Amazon will nix my review) to an SS bathroom break, the author pokes fun of everyone. The difference between this book and so darn much else, is that the novel is actually funny. Belly laugh funny. Anyone who doesn't give this novel five star has lost their ability to see the humor all around us. I think Space Force is a contemporary classic in the vein of Catch 22. Oh, one last honorable mention: the choate monster was perfect and a welcome change from Robinson's giant creatures--although, I'm not done yet so there's still time. My only criticism: the voice of the male/female leads sounded the same. I kept getting them confused. Since they were equally funny, I've overlooked that characterization mishmash. Thanks for the fun Jeremy Robinson!

Since then I have read about 15 of his creation with Space Force being my latest.Rarely do I actually laugh out loud while reading but this book repeatedly smacked me silly. His outstanding blend of characters and understanding of the science behind his concepts keeps me turning pages as fast as I can. I loved this diversion and have already started another (Apocalypse Machine) and will probably end up reading everything he has done. Not once have I been disappointed in the stories he's woven nor do I expect to be.Thank you for sharing your incredible imagination with us.

Audible review:I found this book extremely entertaining because it did not take anything seriously. If you're looking for a humorous tale with plenty of jokes and social commentary then this book is for you!Narration was superb though the female narrators were a bit on the quiet side, perhaps a post-processing issue? I found myself playing volume tag depending on the narrator. I felt like all narrators performance were well paced with great character variety and energy.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

If you enjoyed Jon Hudson from the Nemesis books, you’ll love this. If you like space, aliens, and laughing, then you’ll love this book. If you don’t like any of those three things, read it anyway :)

This book was not what I expected. It was so much better. I absolutely love Jeremy Robinson's sense of humor. Space Force was hilarious, well timed, impressively creative and...gross. I sacrifice hours of sleep to curl up with his books every night...you will not regret reading this.

Good and Sound Advice. Worth reading

If anybody wants/needs an inclusive, easy to understand book on investing, this is the one for you. Chuck's usage of examples and plain english explanations make investing understandable for the novice. Every page has information you can use. I always shied away from getting involved in the world of finance because for me it was difficult to understand. Not anymore. If your curious or serious about financial education...read this book. You owe it to yourself to become familiar with investing if you want a comfortable, worry free retirement.

I read this book over the past two weeks, and as an investing novice, the information that the author provides is both helpful, informative, and not overly complicated. I appreciated that, unlike most authors, this author does not pretend to have ALL the answers. In fact, he has 9 other experts write in this book on investments and strategies that he, the author, isn't an expert. Since the book is titled "What you Don't know Can Hurt You", it's refreshing to know that the author knows what he doesn't know, and is willing to ask others for advice. Much like most of us have to do when it comes to investments. A great book for the investing novice, or a seasoned vet who wants to better understand what kinds of investments are out there, things to avoid, and even, what questions to ask a financial adviser you are interested in hiring. Society tells us all to invest our money and prepare for our future, but how?Investing Simplified has been a perfect place for me to start this journey. I have found the information and presentation easy to follow and organized in a handy manner for all my followup questions. I know that I will read this book over again because there is so much information that will help me make future financial decisions. I really appreciate the author presenting this material with the addition of other specialist in the field of finance.

Chuck Price has the great ability of making the complex easy to understand. I love the way he explains "how things work" in a way the financial layperson can understand. If everyone just read Chapter 15 and then paid attention to the 15, 10, 5, and 1 year checklists to prepare for retirement the book would be of great benefit in securing retirement. It is wonderful to have a book written by someone who has advised countless clients over many years and knows how every financial tool works, and can explain simply what benefit (or disadvantage) they might be. Plus, it is refreshing that he has found experts in other fields to explain how specific types of investing and leveraging work.I wish this book had existed 10 years ago and that Chuck had his practice in my hometown; I would have made many better decisions, informed decisions, about my investing and retirement plans.

Chuck Price hits the nail on the head with this powerful examination of the investment industry. This is a must read for any investor looking for a simplified approach to understanding what really matters when it comes to selecting a Financial Advisor and creating a clear path to a comfortable retirement. Thouroughly engaging! This one is going on my reference shelf.

A very well written book that is easy to understand. I really appreciated Chuck's explanations and examples to a wide variety of investments options. Chuck does an excellent job of explaining the principles of risk management. I recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy to understand explanation of the current investment options.

Written very well and it is easy to understand. I always relied on Nolo as they put more thought in their material than most authors regarding bankruptcy. The question is will it work for me? That I don't know as it will put a negative mark on my credit report where I would lose points and imagine it will have to stay on my credit for a number of years. Yes, it wipe everything out which include many doctor bills. It might inhibit me to get better medical care. Once they have your social security number, very easily a credit check can be run. That is what concerns me.

When a consumer gets into debt over their head and is unable to keep up the payments on the bills, sometimes bankruptcy is the best way out. The author explains the differences between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 and why a debtor would choose one or the other. He also explains the means test, which determines whether Chapter 7 bankruptcy is available. He explains the purposes of bankruptcy as well as the consequences. He also explains the limitations of bankruptcy. Not all debts may be discharged and some property is excluded from the reach of creditors. The book is written for the average reader and the language is clear and concise. This book does not cover Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is for businesses, or Chapter 12 bankruptcy, which is for farms. It does not provide step-by-step instructions for filing bankruptcy. For that, you will need another book. The book is fairly short and half of its content is made up of a glossary, sample forms, and a table of federal and state exemptions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering personal bankruptcy.

As always, Nolo books are the best! I am in the legal profession and Nolo Books are far better than the ordinarly law books, especially on Bankruptcy. They are great reference books and they are wonderful to look up something that would take hours to look up in law books. I recommend Nolo for anyone who needs this type of information, both non-lawyer and lawyers!

As a bankruptcy lawyer, I sometimes teach people how to file their own bankruptcy and this book has proven to be an indispensable tool for my classes. It is also helpful for my individual consultations with persons wondering whether bankruptcy is the right choice for them. The authors use plain, non-technical language to help lay persons, and even experts, better understand the purposes and processes of bankruptcy in light of the most recent changes to the law. This is an excellent guide to bankruptcy that anyone contemplating it should read.

This book has so much information in it. Found out I could get a bigger exemption on my home because my son lives with me. Also written so its easily understandable. Would certainly recommend to anyone thinking of filing.

For the record, I am now 61, you really can teach an old dog new tricks.

I actually read a sample of this book on Amazon before I ordered it. Part of the beginning of the book was about memorizing a list. I did the exercise and memorized the list and now two weeks later I can still recall that list! I was so excited to get the book. It may be old but that does not mean it is not relevant.
