I loved this book. The love portrayed in this book toward people and to God was awesome. The struggles of coming to faith and accepting the failings of the human psyche were portrayed with breathe taking accuracy. The H's struggle to overcome his past and change his outlook on life to be pleasing in God's sight made for a very intense book. The emotions that this book invoked ran the gamut. Any sexual content was very tastefully expressed as the H had lived his life taking all the pleasures offered to him. He was in fact a real Tom cat. The h was truly innocent and live her life to please the Lord. The pair were polar opposites. The book had a strong religious storyline but was not preachy. It was a powerful story about the struggles man can go through in the search for the peace of God's love. I was touched and moved by this story. I highly recommend this book as a great read. It's not your ordinary romance book, it is extraordinary. SQ
Sweet and clean while allowing the emotions of attraction to be included is hard it to write, but I felt this author was able to capture it without losing the story. It did tend to be a bit churchy at times, but that is to be expected in a "Christian" story. The characters were well developed. The story had lots of twists and turns and at times had me on the "edge of my seat" to see how the author would handle the twist. Reaching beyond our past is never easy, overcoming our insecurities with God due to past choices is complex and yet we are never out of God's sight or influence. I think this story did a fine job of addressing those issues for these characters. There were times the other woman that came into Clint's life were a bit much to believe, but their behavior helped to make a point so I will allow it. All in all, I enjoyed this story from start to finish and I will seek our more from this author. It was true love story. Love is tested, love makes us insecure and forces us to seek guidance, peace and confidence. It is a journey that succeeds when we trust the Lord and follow our hearts as these two strong characters to.
Do not understand why, when people write REVIEWS, they think they have to write a synopsis of the book, often giving away major plot events. Therefore, that is not what I will do... So far, I have read two of the first books in this trilogy. While I did like the books, I found myself thinking several times during both of them that the story just went on and on and on. Not enough that I just got frustrated and quit reading, but enough that it was a recurring thought. The characters, mostly the males, were what kept me reading. I truly liked the H's in both books - the h's, not so much. Events, and behavior of the h's (ESPECIALLY in the second book), were just a bit too far-fetched. In both books there were a lot of misunderstandings, lots of irrelevant details, and tedious doling out of information/revelations - I felt like things could have moved forward without a lot of it. While I understand these are "clean," Christian novels, I found the lack of almost any physical affection (even though these books are set in the 50's/60's) to be unrealistic - people just aren't built that way. These were grown folks, behaving like middle school children in some ways. I haven't given up on the series: I am just starting the third book, but I suspect more of the same dragging out instead of tightening up...I guess that would be my opinion in a nutshell - good books, stories just needed tightened up.
Just finished reading. I have read other reviews and agree with parts of some. It shows another side of egotistical man, whose past experiences have led him to live in an unacceptable way..finally turns to God after having lived on the other side of betraying what is good and clean..shows how Forgiveness is important to a person's well being....Shows importance of unlocking closed doors in a person's life and how good communication at the right time restores something lost after experiencing very traumatic events in childhood. I like reviewers best who choose to not reveal part by part so vividly until a person has nothing to discover in reading the book. A Good read. One main character I could almost hate at first, but my opinion of the egotistical man changed with the opening of event in the story and the unveiling of his painful childhood. I was disappointed to not get details of a face to face exchange with his mother but trust other books will have more details since you can not have that until it comes time, just as tomorrows's parts of life can not be experienced before they happen True to life..
I just love western Christian romances, of whatever age or era. Having said that, probably the only major complaint I have about so many of them is that so much happens so fast, then suddenly there's a huge problem complicating factor that resolves all the issues and BAM!...problem solved, maybe a few DAYS, a week or two, end of story, HEA. Of course, that story line is also one I love. Kind of an innocent tribute to God's grace, and our all too human love. I think I especially loved THIS story because the drama came from within the protagonists hearts and minds even though the action was pretty dense at times. I would like to know more about Mabel, Roy, Walt, Mary, Rose Marie, Johnnie, Pete, Max...I see what could be a favorite series developing here!
..though it could have been a 4- 5 star. Tedious is the word that comes to mind. It was way too long and I was completely tired, of Jessica and her running away and self-pity, Clint wasn't much better. In six months time there was so many catastrophies, so many injuries, that it got hard to believe. As Jessica went to her Uncle Ray to help, I was surprised there wasn't much interaction, with him. It was like he didn't even live, in his own house. When Mary came to the ranch, Uncle Ray wasn't even mentioned, in regards to her. That was very strange considering their history. Did Uncle Ray live, at his ranch? The parts I liked best was when God intervened...I loved that...I loved the cover too.
