I highly recommend this book to anyone involved with UX strategy, whether you are the strategist or simply working in a field that requires UX strategy.I've been searching for a book that clearly outlines the process from start to finish for validating a business idea, and this book does exactly that. It explains how to take an idea from concept to either kill, pivot, or execution, which makes for an easy-to-follow approach to UX strategy. The first time through the book, I highlighted and bookmarked pages; the second time through I will use it as a guide with my next client; and each time thereafter I will use it as a reference. This book will never see Goodwill; it will be a definite go-to in my library. What I particularly liked about this book is that is truly all anyone needs to get started. Jaime does an excellent job explaining her process, which she's used for over 20 years, which therein lies a lot of value. Where else can you find such a treasure trove of helpful information? Without this book, I would be spending a lot more time troubleshooting the process. Why reinvent the wheel when this book is available to you?
As a long time product manager in both startups and big corporate companies I can truly say that UX strategy is one of my favorite UX books. It highlights the most important tactics and practices in an overwhelmingly congested domain of UX, business, and product design strategies. The book is very well written with a straight to the point writing style and a wide variety of examples that helps readers see how the UX concepts are implemented in real life. I appreciated the chapters’ opening stories and their lesson learned paragraphs that served as a great introduction to every topic. The true added value of this UX strategy book is that you can equally learn from it whether you are looking to learning the overall concepts of UX, product and business strategy or if you’re looking for a step by step manual for implementing a UX strategy project effectively. Conclusion: Must read for all product, business, and UX professionals out there.
Terms can be slippery in the digital design world; when I bought this book, I thought it would be focused on how to plan new features and create product roadmaps. It does talk about those, but it mainly covers what you need to do *before* designing... is there a market for your product? Who are the users? What do they need? How can you quickly prototype your ideas and get them in front of users? This book contains powerful, well-known methods for building great products in a readable format. At it's core, this is a book about *Product* Strategy. I think the ideas here could apply to nearly any kind of product / service you want to build.
Levy's UX Strategy aims to be a distillation of a number of books one might find in an MBA classroom. The one that is most frequently cited is The Lean Startup by Eric Ries. Despite the lengthy sections on business and entrepreneurial theory, I think the book has a good amount to offer regarding its namesake, UX Strategy. I would have liked to see a bit more about the actual mechanics of web design for conversion and the like, but the amount offered is a good primer for a beginner.
Before reading this book, I had no clue what UX strategy was. Even the words scared me! This book debunked all of my questions and the mysteries behind UX for me. Jaimie Levy does an exceptional job setting a framework and detailing everything from guerilla research to heuristics evaluations. Whether you know nothing or (think) you know everything about UX strategy, I highly suggest reading this book. The affordability of a book this rich is shocking. Without a doubt, buy it now and begin this UX strategy journey!
User experience design for newcomers can be a bit overwhelming because it involves so many principles, add to that the field is growing and changing. This book was helpful in that it provides real examples and the outcomes. As a newcomer to the UX field, this book doesn't inundate you with jargon, explains everything clearly, and provides links to other books and resources that can better introduce you to the field. Today we are solving problems that did not exist 10 years ago on digital platforms and this book will definitely help guide the first important steps of the process.
This book literally changed my life and has given me an opportunity to grow my learning in so many ways. I have a clear understanding on what it takes to iterate on digital product ideas and ultimately provide value to startups (who court my services). The 4 tenets are a regular part of my professional vernacular and I can now verbalize and present ideas in specific and meaningful ways to businesses who often undervalue UX. Thanks again for contributing this piece to the world Jaime!
Levy's book is absolutely an essential read for anyone involved in the UX field. Whether you are just starting out a career in UX or well along in a UX career but looking to refresh your knowledge or looking for more strategy-focused UX readings, I highly recommend this book. It's written in a conversational tone which makes it fun and easy to read, but still packs in a ton of useful information. Even if you're not in UX but work in a related field like marketing or graphic design, there are some great takeaways in this book.
