It's very rare that history can become a real page turner and this author has done the job. I was fascinated by the details, many times from the actual crew, of combat situations.If you like submarines, you'll enjoy this book very much and also learn a lot!
To write a history of submarine warfare, and not to mention, Rickover, the father of the nuclear powered submarine, and by extension the nuclear navy, is a glaring, and unacceptable, omission. The book immediately fell in it worth. Amateurish.He also leaves out the story of Capt. Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov, who was a Soviet Navy officer credited with casting the single vote that prevented a Soviet nuclear sub strike during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Umm... kind of inpoetant in the history of sub warfarw, and, frankly, warfare.
The author makes a bold statement that it is the definitive history but he missed the mark , in general it is an interesting read especially if you are looking for what the British and Germans did during WWII ( mostly British ). I would recommend it to those looking for more of the British side of things.
